Ruben Dias – How he has already become the Citizens’ new stalwart

At the time of writing, Manchester City sit at 10th in the table after 7 games; whilst there is still another 31 games to be played, certain aspects can be drawn from the start to the season – one of which being the defence that has looked day-and-night better than any season prior. Much of that can be distilled onto one addition.

The signing of the Portugese center-back from Benfica was one that left Football fans curious, myself included. With Otamendi transferring to the Lisbon, the deal was reportedly a net £50 million, a fee that scars me any time City provide it to another club after the Mendy and Stones deals. However, his attitude was different.

After his first interview, I knew this man was going to be our Hadrian’s Wall – keeping attackers out of our area – nosso leão

Ruben is built to destroy – coming in at 6’1″, 76kgs, he could finally be the Kompany replacement that we have been waiting 2 seasons for. Since his arrival, 4 goals have been conceded in the 7 games he has played in, of which were 4 wins and 3 draws in all competitions. Even if the stats don’t provide any insight for you, then watching any match he is involved in is true proof within the pudding. On the ball he is classy, with accurate passing and confidence, aiding in the transition from defence into the midfield, and in the event that the defence is ran at, his intercepting ability and tackling is the Van Gogh painting on the wall that is the Etihad Stadium. The future is potentially very bright at eastlands.
