This past weekend at UFC 252 Stipe Miocic cemented his legacy as the greatest heavyweight of all time with his unanimous decision win over Daniel Cormier. The win marked a record fourth defence of the heavyweight title.
Miocic entered the fight at a low 233 pounds to combat Daniel Cormier’s wrestling and clinch heavy style which often tires out his opponents helping him have the edge in the octagon. Going into the third fight the ties were even at 1-1 after Miocic regained his Title through an expert focus on left hooks to the body, eventually getting a TKO in the fourth round.
As the bell rang it seemed to be more of the same as DC walked Miocic down trying to close the distance and get to the clinch where he has proven to be deadly over his illustrious career. However, Miocic expertly used his large frame to pin Cormier to the cage wall reducing the potential damage Cormier could do. The judges scored the fight 48-47 49-46 49-46 in a unanimous victory for Stipe.
With Stipe entering the end of his career his options are still plentiful. Massive hype has surrounded the possibility of a rematch with Francis Ngannou who has made his way back up the leader boards after losing in his first title shot. There is also potential for a title fight with Jon Jones after he recently announced he is moving up to heavyweight and vacating his light heavyweight title. Whatever Stipe chooses to do he has secured his legacy as one of the greats of MMA.
